ZeeVee STBi3 Basic Troubleshooting

Below are some basic fault-finding tips and info to sort a few of the problems encoutered with the STBi3 boxes.

No Picture

  • Plug network cable in
  • Plug HDMI cable in
  • Check the cable is not faulty
  • If the STBi3 is showing a Red LED rather than a Blue LED on the front, you need to power it on via a remote if this is the case
  • The original source of the channel is not playing video – flag which channel is playing as it might not be running or active on the Appear/Kilo

No Sound

  • STBi3 is muted on the android GUI, pressing volume up on the remote or unmute
  • The TV is muted
  • Adjust the HDMI connection to ensure it’s not the cable
  • The original source of the channel is not playing audio – flag which channel is playing

Remote control not working

  • Change the batteries
  • Ensure you are facing the IR input of the STBi3 you are working on, plug in an IR eye to improve the signal

No Channels found

  • Ensure encoder is running
  • From the STB GUI check the boxes MAC address is showing and is being picked up by the system

Box not being discovered on STB Manager

  • Check the device on the same network as the host system
  • Check the correct DHCP range is set on the STB Manager
  • Check the IP settings are correct on the STB – Menu>Menu>Settings>Configure Network here you will see if the correct range is being collected (in this case 192.168.40.1/16)

Device boot looping

  • The box might not have received an IP address via DHCP
  • Device sometimes will take a few loops to grab their address on some occasions
  • The android app container might have crashed and will need to be restarted – either by removing the network cable or pressing restart on the GUI

A full reset might be needed, which can be done by following the below:
1) Insert a USB keyboard into one of the USB ports of the STBi3. This is required because during the reset procedure, the hardware will not respond to the remote control.
2) Remove power from STBi3.
3)Insert a paperclip or SIM tool into reset pinhole located between the USB ports.
4) Reapply power.
5) Hold the pin in until the “Android Recovery” page loads (about 15 seconds)
6 )The following steps can only be performed with the USB keyboard, not the remote:

  • Scroll down the list of options and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset” and press enter on the keyboard. (Sixth item in the list of blue text)
  • You will be prompted: “Wipe all user data?” select Yes and press enter on the keyboard.
  • An android animation will play while wiping data.
  • The list of options will appear once again. This time select “Reboot system now” and press enter on the keyboard. (First option in the list)
  • The player will reboot
  • Another issue that came up on one box, plugging a network cable gives power but no network
  • Slightly unplugging the cable gave the box network and brings it back online and visible on the GUI – need to play with this more, as this could be a hardware fault on the device or a cable issue
