These instructions will show you how to use the Wago printer to print patch panel labels. You will NOT need PatchCAD for this method.
Step 1 – First download the ‘Smart Script’ software from here – https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/0x9yqjy7g8a6dgfoepgrj/h?dl=0&rlkey=g2mhgi7vue9h01qxvl6lhsm40
Step 2 – Connect Wago Printer to a USB port on your computer.
Step 3 – Setup printer drum like this image. The glossy side of the paper needs to face up.
Step 4 – Use the green clips on the side of the printer to open the top of the printer. Feed the label through the hole on the back of the printer. The green plastic label clip slides side to side, allowing you to adjust it based on the width of your labels. Feed the label through this and over the roller.
Step 5 – Turn on the printer if you haven’t already.
Step 6 – Open the following template if printing labels for the TFC Nodes. Make sure you use the marking strip 709-178 50m drum. There are different size label drums! This template is setup for 16 SDI connectors, all equally spaced apart.
Template – https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/qkxl7kcn65u2dlcakhdz1/h?dl=0&rlkey=z3rp7743mc1fbidn2kr5t96x6
This software is fiddly to adjust but to change the text box width (label spacing) click on the ‘home’ tab, then click on the text box and the exact measurements for the text box will appear in the top left.
You can change you label length under the project properties tab, strip length. Remember to press ‘Apply’ to make the change.
Step 7 – Press control-p to print the label. Make sure you select the Wago Printer as your print device.
Step 8 – After the label has been printed you will need to cut the strip using a pair of scissors. There is no cutter built into this printer. The template for the nodes has a blank space to allow you to cut the labels without opening the printer every time.
Another thing to note. When putting the strips into the patch panels, I recommend scoring the back of them with a flat head screwdriver. This will allow them to bend easier and fit into the patch panels properly.
