The EE managed SIM cards in the rental stock require a static APN to be set for them to work. The APN is how the SIM cards handshakes with the cell towers. For normal SIM cards the APN will be set to ‘dynamic’ allowing the cell tower to handle the SIM however it wants to. Our EE managed SIM cards get preferred SIM service in the cells so they require a static APN.
Where you set this up depends on the device the SIM card is in. However there will be a setting somewhere to add a profile control the APN settings.
Change the APN to ‘static’ and create a new profile called ‘EEM2M’ leaving the username and password fields blank
For Vodafone SIM cards, name the profile at Vodafone M2m, set the APN as ‘internet’ and the username and password are both ‘web’
