Adding New or Factory Reset UniFi Kit to unifi.ct-networks.com

By default the APs will try to use DNS to resolve the inform URL, which is the URL they use to tell the controller their status. With our controller being outside the LAN you need to tell the APs to look somewhere else.

To do this, have the unifi controllers web page open by going to https://unifi.ct-networks.com:8443 and logging in.

Plug the AP into the LAN that you are on. You will need a way of working out the IP address of the AP as they default to DHCP. An IP scanner, or the Unifi discovery application are good ways of doing this. Use PuTTy to SSH into the AP. The default username and password is ubnt. Once logged in, issue this command.

set-inform http://unifi.ct-networks.com:8080/inform

The AP will report what it has done. If you now type info and press enter, you should see a quick status report of the AP and the last line will give you the status of the adoption.

If all is well the AP will now appear in the Unifi Controller and you can adopt it.

The adoption may not complete. If it doesn’t run the set-inform command again, just like before. If you have any difficulties, such as the AP refusing to adopt successful, or a “server reject”, the easiest solution is to “forget” the AP out of the controller and start the adoption process as if the AP were brand new.
