How To Use the Cadex C7400 Battery Conditioner

The Cadex C7400 is a modular battery analyser and conditioner which can have modules for multiple types of batteries fitted to it. It will run the battery through a full discharge, full charge and then recondition the battery if the preset minimum capacity is not met.

Swapping Battery Adaptors

Each battery slot adaptor can be moved or changed as needed. The C7400 detects which adaptor is in each slot and will only load conditioning settings for the batteries that fit that adaptor.

The LCD display will show NO ADAPT if the the adaptor is not present or properly seated.  It will show EMPTY if the adaptor is fitted correctly but no battery has been connected.

Running a Conditioning Cycle

Take a note of the manufacturers part number on the battery.

Insert the battery into the adaptor. The C7400 will beep and display a battery-detected message on the LCD with the station number ie S1. Press the Enter button to select or confirm the settings.

Use the up and down arrows to find the program for the part number of the battery.  The part numbers are displayed in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Please note that each battery has a program to test the battery to 80% and to 60%.  Always test hire stock batteries to 80%. Press Enter twice to confirm the setting and start the cycle.

Batteries that Pass the Conditioning

If a battery meets or exceeds 80% capacity either after the first analysis or after a recondition the C7400 will report a Pass and the green Pass LED will remain lit until the battery is disconnected. Pressing the numbered button below the Pass LED will display more detailed information about the battery including the capacity it reached.  Some capacities will show as being over 100% due to the slightly higher voltage of Motorola batteries.

Batteries that Fail the Conditioning

If after just a few seconds of the program being started the C7400 errors by beeping and displaying INTERRUPT on the screen, the battery has a significant fault such as a dead cell or a short circuit and cannot accept charge.

Other programs on the C7400 may be able to rectify this so keep the battery to one side.

TEMP RISE or HOT BATT means batteries temperature rose dangerously quickly or got dangerously high.  Dispose of the battery

FAIL 115 or FAIL 116.  The battery failed to reach the 80% capacity required by the program.  Either test the battery to 60% and keep as B-Grade units, or dispose of the battery.

FAIL 162 or FAIL 164.  Discharge or charge current was too low to continue.  The battery is not accepting charge.  Dispose of the battery.

FAIL 129 means the battery as dropped connection to the analyser more than five times in a minute.  This is a bad cell or bad connection in the battery.  Dispose on the battery

The full list of error codes and meanings are in the back of the user manual.
