Lightware MX4x4DVI / MX8x8DVI Factory Default Reset Procedure

UPDATE 10.10.2019 – MX 4×4 DVI doesn’t reset by following below procedure. The MX4x4 DVI will not factory reset via the button config, there is no way to ‘Factory reset’ the 4×4 but the IP can be reset via some tools we have acquired from Lightware. Contact David Fyffe.
UPDATE 10.12.2019 – Lightware 4×4 MTX’s will be discontinued from stock very soon.

Setuprestore.exe is an app that will point itself at the existing IP and change it at low level and works well. The only way to do a full reset is to reflash the firmware using a bootloader tool v1.3.0 and apply the firmware version 2.3.1 which is the latest. Be advised that this process is only achievable via serial and takes over an hour to complete.

The MX 4×4 won’t work with the new “Lightware Device Control’ software, they need the old MXController software (v3.4.3) and work best over serial although IP seems to work ok too. This is still a work in progress

The Ethernet port can be configured remotely by using Lightware Device Controller Software or the built-in website. The factory default IP settings or DHCP mode can be activated quickly by the front panel buttons.

Resetting the IP Address

To reset the IP configuration perform the following:

Step 1. Switch the matrix to Take mode if used previously in Autotake mode by pressing Take button for 3 seconds (light will go off).

Step 2. Press and release Control Lock button (it lights in up red continuously).

Step 3. Press and keep pressed the Output Lock button (the current protocol indication will light up).

Step 4. Press and release the Load Preset button to set the factory default IP settings:

  • IP address: 192.168.254.254,
  • port number: 10001,
  • subnet mask: 255.255.0.0,
  • gateway: 0.0.0.0.

Step 5. A light sequence will occur to confirm the command (Take/Auto, Load Preset and Save Preset buttons will light up one after the other).

Step 6. Connect the LAN cable to the Ethernet port if it was unplugged.

Step 7. Wait about 20 seconds before connecting the matrix via Ethernet.
