Using the FOPM-201
A new model of the power meter has been released, the FOPM-201. The process is the same as the video above, however the power reading is calibrated to zero by pressing and holding the REF button for 2 seconds.
dB to Percentage Loss
The process above calibrates the zero point of the meter to the output of the equipment, so all loss measurements are relative to that zero point. The scale is logarithmic
-0.5dB = 10% of light from the equipment is lost in the fibre
-1db = 20% of light from the equipment is lost in the fibre
-2db = 35% lost
-3dB = 50% lost
-6dB = 75% lost
-9dB = 87.5% lost
-12dB = 93.7% lost
-20dB = 99% lost
