How to Prepare Control Laptops to Have a New Image Captured

This guide should be followed before taking a new image on the IN control laptops.

Restore the laptop using the current image from Fog to ensure as much of the known-working settings are applied and no extra software has been installed on site.

Run the updates for all for the installed software.  Download links are listed below but make sure all the software in the Desktop folders is covered.  Make sure you open all the software to make sure it is still running properly.

Update Java from the Java settings in Control Panel.

Don’t run any Windows updates.  If you do, all installed software and drivers will need to be checked again to ensure they are still working.

If updating the HP 250 G6 image, get the latest Iris Manager software and known-working switch configurations and copy them into the Iris folder on the Desktop.

Open Chrome and ensure the homepage is still set to ops.ct-networks.com/logmein then clear all browsing data, stored passwords and cache.  Close Chrome.

Open Firefox and ensure the homepage is still set to ops.ct-networks.com/logmein then clear all browsing data, stored passwords and cache.  Close Firefox.

Ensure the date, time and timezone are correct.

Ensure the network adaptor is set to DHCP.

Update the Desktop background using the template on DropBox.  This can be found in Vision and Integrated Networks -> Integrated Networks -> Equipment -> Control Laptops -> Backgrounds.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Run Disk Cleanup, select all the check boxes and click Clean Up

Run Defragmenter.

Restart the laptop to make sure all the installs are complete.

Restart the laptop but interrupt the Windows boot by selecting Image Recovery.

Double click the small Enable Capture button and enter the credentials admin / PlasticGoat

Click Capture Image.  Enter a sensible name for the image and click Capture.  This capture takes quite a while to complete but will report when it has been successful.

Shut the laptop down.

Create an image capture task on Fog and boot the laptop into Fog by pressing F12.  The capture will start automatically.

Disable the old image on Fog so that only the newly created image is listed in the image list when Fog is being used.
