Resetting the UniFi Build WiFi Kit

The UniFi build WiFi kit is a cloud managed kit containing a security gateway, three PoE switches and 10 access points.  It is designed to be used to give courtesy WiFi to clients and production offices on site.  However sometimes the access points and switches get reset on site to be used as control equipment.  When the kit is prepped again any missing kit should be re-adopted by the main UniFi controller.

Accessing the Controller

The UniFi controller is hosted at CT and is access via a web page and individual login.  If you are on the Media network you can access the controller at unifi.ct-networks.com:8443.  Anywhere else you do not need the additional port number so you can just navigate to unifi.ct-networks.com

Log in with your credentials and ensure you have the correct site selected in the top right-hand corner.  Once you have done this you can then select Devices from the left-hand menu to see the equipment associated with that site.

Adopting Equipment

Unfortunately, because the Controller is hosted inside the Media network, it is easier to adopt equipment over 4G.  Plug the UniFi Security Gateway in to a 4G router and plug the switches and access points into that.  Any devices that aren’t adopted will have a white LED on them and won’t appear in the devices page of the Controller.

You can factory reset any devices apart from the Security Gateway.

Once the switch or access point is reset, it will be given a DHCP lease by the Security Gateway.  Contained in this lease is also information about the UniFi Controller, so once reset switch or access point will be able to contact the Controller.  The device will then appear in the Devices page with an ‘Adoption Required’ warning.  Click adopt.  The device will then be adopted and provisioned to its standard configuration for the kit.
