10G Ethernet Adaptor Configuration for Media Servers/Content Transfer

To scale network performance and speed up content transfer between the media servers you might want to use 10 Gigabit speed capable Ethernet adaptors. In order that your whole chain is running at 10G Ethernet speed you would also need 10G capable Ethernet network switch and at least CAT 6 category Ethernet cable.

Remember, 10G network switches need to be configured to handle large amount of traffic and that predominantly means setting the Maximum transmission unit (MTU) per port from default MTU for 1G port 1500 octets to 9000 octets for 10G speed. It’s recommended to approach a Network engineer if you are unsure about configuring network switches.

To adjust Ethernet adaptor of the PC you need to access the Properties by going to Control panel > Network and Sharing Centre > Change Adapter settings > 10G Ethernet adaptor> Right click and select Properties.

Once 10G Ethernet adaptor Properties window opens you need to click on the Properties of General tab like in below picture.

Afterwards, click on Configure in the Networking tab.

Then, click on Advanced tab.

In the following window select Interrupt Moderation under Property and change it to Disabled.

Afterward adjust Jumbo Packet property to 9014 bytes.

Then, proceed with adjusting Maximum Number of RSS Queues to maximum value offered in the dropdown menu.

And for the Speed & Duplex property select 10 Gbps Full Duplex value.

It is worth mentioning that, if you are experiencing issues with controlling servers, lag or connection drops between the machines, you need to revert back the properties to default and investigate what is causing the system to cause issues.
